Haringey lies in the middle tier of London geographically between inner and outer London towards the north. From the high vantage points at leafy Muswell Hill in the west, you can enjoy spectacular views over London or take a stroll along the desirable streets and shops of the area. Highgate is also lovely and well worth a visit; head towards Waterlow Park from where you can go on to Highgate Cemetery which is a fascinating place to spend a couple of hours.

The famous Victorian cemetery, originally opened in 1839 has many famous occupants including sculptor and painter Henry Moore and political theorist and father to David and Ed, Ralph Miliband. Perhaps most notably however is Karl Marx, who somewhat ironically has a large grave in the East Cemetery steeped in grandeur. In the western half of the borough stands Alexandra Palace, the last great Victorian exhibition space in Europe and the birth place of television. It boasts panoramic views over London and plays host for many major annual events. The Parkland Walk links Alexandra Palace to Finsbury Park, home to the famous Fleadh annual open air music event.

An ethnically diverse borough with an estimated 193 languages spoken there it is also a borough of stark contrasts with some western areas such as Crouch End, Muswell Hill and Highgate being among the wealthiest in the country; whilst on the eastern side there are areas which are among the most deprived in the country. Alongside the contrasts in wealth, population and housing, Haringey is also an area of very mixed landscapes; there is beautiful, wooded high ground around Highgate and Muswell Hill, open low lying land alongside the River Lea in the east and densley populated urban areas in the east.

There are many flagship affordable home schemes active in Haringey designed to bring the borough back to prosperity with an emphasis on the part buy part rent initiatives in particular. The local authority and housing associations under the government backed Homebuy scheme provide over 27,000 properties in the borough.
